HDS/L Junior Award 2016
Shoe design & development

In her exploration of innovative forms of expression, Georgiana-Andreea drew inspiration from the dynamic installations of Naum Gabo and Agano Machikado. Their works, characterized by elements of motion, fluidity, and suspension, became the foundation for her creative exploration. Inspired by their artistry, she embarked on a project that sought to capture the static, flowing and floating qualities of their installations within the realm of footwear design.

At the heart of this project was the creation of an experimental shoe that seamlessly blended innovation with functionality. One of the most significant challenges she faced was achieving a delicate and ethereal aesthetic while minimizing the shoe’s overall size. She skillfully designed the sole to appear as if it were floating, while the heel maintained a dynamic yet grounded presence. The use of roughened, distressed leather added an element of vitality, infusing the shoe with a sense of life and energy.

This bold approach to design earned her the prestigious HDS/L Junior Shoe Award in 2016, an honor presented by the Federal Association of the Shoe and Leather Industry at the GDS shoe trade fair in Düsseldorf. Her award-winning design is now permanently displayed at the German Leather Museum in Offenbach am Main, Germany — an enduring testament to her creative impact on the world of footwear design.

Georgiana-Andreea’s work in this project is a celebration of artistic expression, where the boundaries between visual art and practical functionality are beautifully blurred. Through this innovative approach, she continues to push the limits of design, transforming shoes into living works of art.
